Program Overview
Girls on the Grid Line is College Bound Institute’s (CBI) pioneering pre-apprenticeship program funded by the United States Department of Labor that will launch in January 2026. CBI has partnered with The WE=mc² Project to introduce young women to high-demand, high-wage careers within the electric, water, and wastewater sectors. By providing early exposure, technical skills training, and mentorship, the program aims to expand gender diversity in the utilities workforce and strengthen the pipeline into registered apprenticeship and employment opportunities.
The program equips participants with foundational knowledge of utility operations, safety practices, and trade readiness while building confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills essential for success in the field.
Girls on the Grid Line aims to increase female representation and retention in the skilled trades workforce, support equitable access to economic mobility, and build a sustainable talent pipeline that reflects the communities utilities serve. By investing in early exposure and training, the program not only empowers young women—but also strengthens the future of the energy and infrastructure sectors.
